What is a Root Canal?
A Root Canal isn’t as scary as it sounds, and sometimes it is the best course of action to help with tooth pain and overall oral health. When the nerves of a tooth become infected or inflamed, a Root Canal is often the best option. Inflammation and infection can be caused by a wide variety of things; chips in the teeth, decay, and previous dental procedures can all lead to the pain, discomfort, and the need for a Root Canal. During the procedure, the inflamed or infected part of the tooth’s anatomy is removed. The tooth is filled, and oftentimes a crown is placed to keep the tooth safe.
When do I need a Root Canal?
Tooth sensitivity to heat or cold, tooth discoloration, tooth tenderness, and drainage are all signs that a Root Canal may be necessary to correct the issue. When in doubt, always call our office to schedule an appointment to assess the true cause of the problem. Dr. Virdi will examine the area and determine if a Root Canal is the correct course of action. If so, she’ll schedule your appointment as quickly as possible so you don’t have to live in discomfort or pain.
What should I expect?
The team will do everything they can do keep you comfortable during the procedure. In the following days, you can expect some sensitivity in the area, especially if there was infection prior to the procedure. Often times, the pain can be managed with over-the-counter or prescription medications.
